Ask at the office for a tour of the museum complex, whose feature is the stately former Farmer's National Bank building (NRHP) built by J.D. Larabee in 1886. In a separate structure, the museum houses the famous glass plate negative collection from the W.R. Gray Studio of photography in St. John. The plates number more than 30,000 and cover a time period from 1905 to 1947.The Gray collection is considered the largest of its kind in the United States that is specific to one location. A fascinating record of everyday life, the images depict work, school, vehicles, homes, pets, farms and farm animals, and more. Four exhibits feature 100 photos from the collection. Additional highlights are an intricately carved horse-drawn hearse , several antique cars, and quilts in the Quilt Museum.
