This log cabin is the only visual reminder of the town's early settlement period. Pioneer James Smith built it in 1867, and later sold it to Elizabeth Hollingsworth, a pioneer mother of seven. The cabin, donated to the city by Nellie Thomas, stands on its original site. At one time it served as a meeting place for the Baptist church, and later as a jail. A likeness of a pioneer mother and child is carved into a maple tree stump near the site.
