Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site

Fairway, KS | Johnson County

From 1839 to 1862 Shawnees, Delawares, and other Indian tribal members attended the manual training school on this site. The buildings were also used as an early territorial capitol, a supply point on the Santa Fe and the Oregon Trails, and a camp for Union soldiers. A National Historic Landmark, the site comprises three original brick buildings spaced throughout a tranquil natural setting. (NRHP)
