CEMETERY

Railroad Workers Memorial

Victoria, KS | Ellis County

In this small cemetery, a plaque on a large granite base, states that in 1867 Cheyennes killed 6 railroad laborers who were working near here. An old piece of limestone was the original and only memorial to these workers until it suddenly went missing. Eventually found under a veil of mystery, it was rededicated in 2003 and now rests in a plexiglass-covered box above the granite base.
