HISTORICAL MARKER

Polio Protection Plaque

Protection, KS | Comanche County

Protection from polio was the mission of the Salk vaccine. And in 1957 Protection was selected to be the first town to inoculate all its citizens under the age of 50 with the vaccine. As we know, the vaccine was a success. A plaque next to the old-fashioned water fountain tells the polio/Protection story.
