CHISHOLM TRAIL

Old Abilene Town

Abilene, KS | Dickinson County

Get a taste of the old west when you visit Old Abilene Town. Abilene was the destination for the cattle drives that took place along the Chisholm Trail in the 1860s and 187os. It is estimated that over 1.5 million cattle were driven along this famous trail. The cowboys who had spent weeks driving the cattle were ready to spend their hard-earned money and celebrate. Soon Abilene developed the reputation of the being the "wildest and wooliest" town in the west, until a sheriff by the name of Wild Bill Hickok was hired. Learn the history of this cattle town and experience can-can dancers and gunfights on Saturday and Sunday during the summer. Check their Facebook page for information.

Labor Day weekend, come out for Chisholm Trail Days and witness a real live cattle drive with long-horn cattle. It's a sight to see!
