The church was built in 1941 as a shrine to Sister Rose Philippine Duchesne, who was canonized in 1988. The stone interior features stained-glass windows that tell her life story, and two murals portray her work at Sugar Creek Mission, where she taught Potawatomi children and nursed the sick in 1841.
