Kansas Route 66 Historic District

Baxter Springs, KS | Cherokee County

From Military, 5 blocks west on 3rd, then 3 miles north on Willow. Between the Willow Creek bridge and the Marsh rainbow single arch Brush Creek bridge is a stretch of Route 66 that retains many remnants from its original construction'narrow road (only 25 feet wide), unpaved shoulders, box culverts, and the tree-lined roadsides. Drive this back route slowly and soak it in. It's subtly sublime. (NRHP)
