2889 23rd. From U.S. 36, 4 miles north on K-148, then 1 mile east on K-243. The only Pony Express station remaining on its original site, Hollenberg station reflects a colorful but brief time in our nation's history. The Pony Express operated only 18 months (1860-1861) but its legacy has endured. The visitor center's interpretive signs, artifacts, and colorful Charles Goslin mural set the stage before you walk across the field to the 1858 station. Gerat and Sophia Hollenberg built this wood structure as a general store and tavern for Oregon-California Trail travelers.
