When in the midst of the High Plains prairie, it's hard to believe you're near a spring-fed lake with deep wooded canyons and craggy Ogallala limestone bluffs. It is an oasis on the prairie. All the usual recreational opportunities, including hiking trails, are available in the park and its rugged 100-acre lake. State park entrance charge. Cabins available, reservations required.
