Hays Boot Hill Cemetery

Hays, KS | Ellis County

18th and Fort. The first Kansas cemetery called Boot Hill is in Hays. It is marked by a dedication plaque and by the Pete Felten sculpture "The Homesteader." This cemetery served the town between 1867 and 1873 and estimates are that 79 people are buried in this first Boot Hill cemetery west of the Mississippi.
