503 Batey. While serving as Kansas governor, Nehemiah Green offered to buy a bell for a Methodist church established in a Kansas town named for him. In 1881 a town was established in northeast Clay County, and remembering the former governor's offer, the founders named their town Green. You can still see the governor's bell atop the United Methodist Church.
