Generally bounded by Wyatt Earp, W. Third, N. Vine and E. Central. Contributing to the historic district are 76 structures built from 1886 to the 1970s, the majority of which are from the 20th century. Several factors combined to reduce the number of extant late-1800s buildings, including 1880s fires that took the original Front Street. Modern commercial construction occur red during the first three decades of the 1900s and continued during the post-WWII years, but with a nod to the past, a replica of old Front Street was constructed in 1958. What remained of Dodge City's historic core, however, was doomed by the Urban Renewal plan of the 1970s, which demolished many structures. Today's historic district recognizes the growth and development of the town and its collection of commercial buildings from various periods.
