Historic Springs

St. George, KS | Pottawatomie County

A concrete tank, dedicated to the early settlers of St. George, still catches water from the ever-running Black Jack Springs. The springs were a well-known rest stop for travelers on the old military road between Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley and for those on the Smoky Hill Trail. An overland stage station stood near the springs prior to the coming of the railroad.
