This limestone Romanesque Revival structure was completed in 1908. Of particular interest are the stylized sunflowers engraved on the exterior, a stone lion's head and Medusa at the entrance, the displayed elk horns that gored to death legislator Hiram Bull, and the five green-tile fireplaces. Of peculiar interest is the tale of the so-called "sidewalk superintendent," John Wineland, who was such a nuisance when the courthouse was being built that the construction crew engraved his face on the clock tower!
