Shallow Water School, designed in the Mission and the Spanish Colonial Revival styles, was built with adobe clay blocks covered with stucco on the exterior and plaster on the interior. The construction materials were chosen because of a lack of nearby trees and native stone. Completed in 1942 by the WPA, it is the only known adobe school in the state. The work of many local individuals to construct this school adds up to an impressive community story. The school now serves as a community center. (NRHP)
